Open the level manger not the level display manager and set the overides not by level and apply a grey colour to all levels Id select the ref files left hand side panel first and apply to all .. make sure in active view overides is on.. I use the control A keyin both panels to select all but only choose the refs you want...
here I used all for all refs attached and all for all levels then I only have to set the colour once for all to be grey or any colour I want like pale green for existing
