Is there a tool to visualise structural movements and tolerances in a BIM model?
I am finding that Movement and Tolerances reports are becoming very common place with a lot of projects. Even for medium-sized relatively unsophisticated buildings, the cladding and lift installers need to know in advance what movements and tolerances they need to be designing to. The temporary works engineers also often need to know.
The problem with these '2d' reports is that they are generally not part of the 3d model. And suffer from the same problems that pre-BIM 2d drawings suffer from... there is no comprehensive 3d 'definition'.
How would the movements be visualised? Would the deformations of all the load cases be combined into a 'worst case' envelope or surface? I suppose this can then be superimposed and 'thickened' with the tolerance dimensions.
I would be interested in any screenshots or examples of how this gets documented.
