Hello

I'll second that

There's still plenty of room/scope for '2D' work in the 3D modelling environment (preferably with the 2D in-situ or located it it's real 3D location)

- as mentioned, movement/circulation around the building (vertical as well as on plan)

- Fire Strategy exercises

- GIA and NIA (Gross Internal Area & Net Internal Area, .... quite a 'big deal' that one for designers/property people)

- Various 'zoning' exercises

- quick 'drafting of floor layouts, furniture arrangements, different floor finishes, ....

Indeed, quite a few analysis type exercises, can often be done with a 2D profile or 'Cut' through the building fabric/structure

Hypermodelling has much potential. Though at the moment, seems mainly  intended at allowing you to back reference 2D drawings in to the originating 3D modelling arrangement. Plus, it's implementation and management is a bit fiddly (The Ref Manager was already 'overloaded' and this is only exasperating that situation, ......)

There needs to be some assistance/facility to create 2D cuts, using DVs, then using those 2D cuts to carry out various exercises/analysis, potentially adding additional 2D information to/on top of/aligned with the 2D cuts, then being able to back reference all that in the the originating 3D model(s)

From what I've seen there are some moves (with SS4) to link the creation of DVs with the Floor Manager. Haven't properly tested this out yet, but would seem to be heading in the right direction. There needs to be a set of 2D planes, corresponding and aligned/linked with the DVs Cut Planes, that people can use to do 2D work, so that it is already in the correct 3D space. Then as the design develops, so of the 'CAD data' will be in 3D, and some of it will be in 2D, but the 2D would be interwoven/overlayed/synched with it's related 3D.

I've had a few attempts at this and it's sort of doable at the moment, but relies upon a reference file arrangement that is a bit convoluted (all sorts of different nesting arrangements and multiple refs of the grid file) and I'm certain this would be a bit too 'involved' for the 'average' user so to speak (forgive the term for the purposes of trying to keep it brief)
